Vase

The vase is complete; there is some glaze missing from the rim. It is octagonal cylindrical in shape with a straight wall, topped by a rounded shoulder and a slightly constricted neck. The rim is flared and has a plain contour. The base is in line with the wall; the bottom is recessed and flat. The ring-shaped base is unglazed. The body is beige and the glaze is a slightly bluish white. The underglaze blue mark is 2 S B (or I3); the decoration is hand-painted in underglaze blue. It is vegetal and floral with lambrequins. The painted decoration is spread over four horizontal bands that occupy almost the entire height of the vase. The decoration below the rim consists of a row of vertical, ribbed leaves in reserve on a dark blue background. The main decoration is on the shoulder and wall, and consists of two superimposed elements. The shoulder and wall are adorned with two different motifs repeated in alternation, comprising a scroll painted in reserve within a poly-lobed medallion painted dark blue, below which hangs an oval blue-background lambrequin adorned with a central flower surrounded by scrolls in reserve, followed by two mirrored scrolls adorned with a central leaf in reserve, from which hangs a complex vegetal element with scrolls. The wall is adorned with two different motifs placed alternately: a complex plant element with scrolls and a small plant element. The base is decorated with a row of blue-painted lambrequins featuring a flower and scrolls in reserve; the space between the lambrequins is adorned with a three-lobed element flanked by scrolls in reserve. The decoration is blurred.
