Toothpaste jar lid

The lid is complete. It is circular in shape, with a slightly domed top and bulging rim. The wall is recessed and elevated, with a wide, flat fulcrum; the inside of the lid is recessed and slightly concave. There is a small burr in the center of the underside of the lid; the decoration is printed in black underglaze on the top of the lid. The decoration occupies the entire surface of the lid. It is circumscribed by a ring of double fillet. The main decoration features an adapted copy of the coat of arms of Great Britain in the center; there are printed inscriptions above and below the coat of arms. At the top, in four registers: ORIENTAL TOOTH PASTE FOR CLEANSING BEAUTIFYING AND PRESERVING THE TEETH & GUMS; at the base, in four registers: PREPARED BY JEWSBURY & BROWN Chemists 113 MARKET STREET MANCHESTER. The rim and wall of the lid are decorated with black veins applied by printing.
