Table
Restoration-period giltwood round center table with marble top and base. The top is marble and the base is carved wood. The top rests on a wide carved belt featuring four medallions with representations of the kings of France in profile in sock relief. One of the medallions depicts Philip VI, while the others are more difficult to read. Each of the central medallions is framed by openwork floral carvings linked to four console feet with acanthus leaves, and topped by a ram’s head in the round at the top. At the base, a stylized strut is joined in the center by a basket of flowers to support and enhance the base. The finish on this table has undoubtedly been retouched over time, and appears to be the result of the application of a late bronzine.
