Sugar bowl

The sugar bowl is complete; the handles have been broken off and glued back in place. It is cylindrical in shape. The wall is straight, topped by an angular shoulder; the top has an annular neck with a flat, glaze-free top; its inner wall is also glaze-free. At the base, the wall follows the same shape as at the top, and rests on a foot similar to the neck, whose fulcrum is unglazed. The bottom is recessed and flat. The sugar bowl has two vertical handles attached to the wall. The decoration is molded and hand-painted; it is blue in color and consists of a lake scene. The molded decoration is visible on the handles. The painted decoration is visible on the shoulder and on the outer wall. The decoration on the shoulder consists of a wide frieze of various elements. It is bordered along the neck by a row of empty beads. The main motif is a double spiked lattice. It is interrupted, alternately, by two rows of honeycombs filled with radiating lines and bordered by spirals and various scrolls, between half-flowers bordered by scrolls. This is followed by areas filled with small ovals and a central pearl. The latticework also borders half-flowers. The decoration on the outer wall is reproduced on opposite sides. It’s an oriental scene with islands, pagodas and rocks. The main island features a pavilion and pagoda with staircase. The tiered pagoda is located in the center of the island and is bordered by a variety of trees; at their foot are rocks. In front of the pagoda, in an unpainted area, stand two figures facing each other. The island is bordered on the right by a cliff on which a pine tree grows; on its left is a fence whose panels are adorned with a swastika. Beyond is a single-arched bridge leading to another island; a figure crosses the bridge. A boat sails under the bridge. The other island has a central rock, behind which stand two trees, which border a small pavilion, in front of which stands another tree. The island is lined with trees, three buildings and a tall pagoda. Two sailing boats sail between the islands. The two coves, molded separately, are made of interwoven ribbons. Their surface is painted matt blue. Their attachment points to the wall are molded in sock relief in the shape of small flowers and long oval blossoms.
