Sugar bowl reproduction
The sugar bowl is complete. It is circular in shape. The wall is straight and the rim is a continuation of the wall; the top is domed. The lower part of the wall is tapered towards the base, which is narrowed. The sugar bowl rests on a flared pedestal, the base of which is unglazed; the center is recessed and flat. It is fitted with two horizontal handles made from two twisted rods. There is a hand-painted mark in black under the base: FRANCE; the decoration is molded and hand-painted in two-tone yellow and brown over glaze. The molded decoration touches the handles. The painted decoration covers the opposite outer walls and the outer rim, the latter adorned with a brown painted fillet. The decoration features chinoiserie and vegetal motifs. The chinoiserie scene features a central building on an uneven terrace; it is surrounded by shrubs and trees, and a figure stands to the left, flown over by a bird. The other side is adorned with leafy, flowering stems. The lower part of the outer wall is decorated with a brown horizontal fillet. The walls below the handles are decorated with an insect. The handles have been molded separately: they are shaped like two twisted coils, whose ends are flattened into three lobes, each adorned with a painted leaf.
