Spoon reproduction
This spoon handle dates from the second half of the 17th century. The initials R G could stand for Robert Graves. There was a somewhat disreputable 17c Salem/Boston MA pewtersmith named Robert Graves. He is known to have worked for several decades, but nothing of his work is known to have survived. This spoon is a modern copy of a 17th-century spoon, with a fancy seal. This spoon could be used for semi-liquid dishes, such as soups and stews ; The decoration is molded and is located at the end of the handle and under the spoon. The end of the handle is three-lobed. The stem ends in a rat tail at the reverse of its junction with the spoon.
