Historical context
This bronze statuette, the work of Montreal sculptor Alfred Laliberté, depicts French soldier Adam Dollard des Ormeaux in a dynamic position, captured by the artist’s imagination as he receives a wound. Trained as a soldier, Dollard des Ormeaux came to New France in 1658, at the age of 22, and was given command of the Ville-Marie garrison in 1659.
