Historical context
An indispensable tool until the mid-19th century, this wrought-iron rack is evidence of a traditional cooking method. Until the arrival of the wood-burning stove in the 1830s, food was cooked in an open hearth. The rack is used to hang teapots, pots or cauldrons in the hearth, and even to connect the hook used to roast meat.
