Punch bowl
The bowl is complete; it has a crack and small glaze chips on the top of the rim. It is circular in shape. Its wall is slightly flared, with a straight rim and domed top. The lower part of the wall is curved towards the bottom, which is flat. It rests on a solid ring-shaped foot, whose beveled base is free of glaze; the bottom is recessed and flat; the decoration is hand-painted in blue underglaze and polychrome enamels in pink, green, orange, yellow and black overglaze, with gold highlights, in the Famille rose style. It is of the Chinese garden type. It is visible under the inner rim and on the outer wall. The decoration under the inner rim is a braid outlined in blue and underlined by a fillet; it is adorned with a double latticework of diamond-shaped spikes. This braid is interrupted by four areas arranged in a cross, adorned with a central four-petal flower and bordered by scrolls trimmed with lines; they are set between arched lines, painted in blue and in reserve. The inner base features a leafy stem painted blue and topped with a traced flower painted orange. The wall is decorated with two different motifs: a garden and a small flower on the opposite wall. The garden consists of an uneven terrace outlined in blue, beneath which are small tufts of grass outlined in black on a green background. In the center, it supports a tall, stylized rock with a hole in it, symbolizing the Chinese philosophy of Taoism, traced and painted in blue with gold highlights. Emerging from this rock are small leaves traced in black and painted green, and two small flowers traced in black and painted red and yellow. The rock is bordered by two types of fence. On the left is a central post drawn and painted blue with gold highlights, in the center two sloping boards drawn blue and painted orange. Near this fence grow long curved stems and leaves, traced and black and painted green, as well as two flowers, painted blue with gilding and traced and painted orange. There’s also a long, leaning tree with branches and leaves, all painted blue with gold highlights. One large flower is outlined in black and painted in yellow and faded orange, while others are painted pink and orange. The fence on the right has vertical posts painted blue with gilding, and panels adorned with swastika traced in orange. Above this fence are two flowers, painted in blue with gilding and traced and painted in orange, and a large peony painted in pink; it is bordered by leaves traced in black and painted in green, and painted in blue with touches of gilding, and a flower traced and painted in orange with gilding. The decor ends on the right with another pierced rock, painted in blue with gilding, topped by flowers painted in blue, orange and yellow, and a long stem traced in blue with small leaves traced in black and painted in green, and a flower painted in pink. The opposite wall is adorned with a small stem painted blue, topped with a small flower painted orange and small leaves outlined in black and painted green.
