Punch bowl

The bowl is complete, lacking only a small chip on the inner rim, which continues into a crack. It is circular in shape. It has a slightly flared wall, a straight rim and a domed top. It rests on a truncated cone-shaped foot. The foot is free of glaze. The glaze has been wiped from the inside of the foot. There is a mark printed in blue below the base: C, also a hatched crescent. The inner base has numerous intersecting linear marks, and its glaze is amatized. There is a long crack from the rim to the wall ; The decoration is applied by transfer printing and hand-painted; it is blue in color and features the Fence motif. The painted decoration is located under the inner edge: it consists of two superimposed horizontal rings. The printed decoration is visible on both the outer wall and the inner base. On the outer wall, it is distributed over four aligned zones. The main decoration consists of a fence made up of a few sections: two are almost straight, while the others are arranged in a zig-zag pattern. The fence sections are cross-hatched, with a small, three-lobed opening in the center. A rock borders the fence on the right. Leafy and flowering plant stems of varying scales adjoin the fence, including a long stem extending to the left; they are cross-hatched. Opposite the fence are three different parts of the scene. There’s an island, elongated and cross-hatched. It is topped by a hut with a domed straw roof, flanked by three trees; a five-lobed rock borders the island at water level. Waves made of horizontal lines strike the island and the rock. At the foot of the island, a stylized plant element and three small, triangular rocks emerge. Two birds fly away from the island; seen in profile to the right, they follow each other, one wing pointing backwards and the other downwards. They are heading towards a long rock with two heads, one of which is topped by three trees, while the other portion is topped by two curved plant stems of reed or bamboo. The decoration in the center of the background is a spray of leafy plant stems, topped with two different flowers; they are decorated with hatching.
