Punch bowl
The bowl is complete, with a few breaks, particularly near the rim. The bowl is circular in shape. In profile, the wall is slightly flared at the top, topped by a straight rim. The lower part of the wall is curved towards the bottom, which is flat. The bowl rests on a solid ring foot, whose beveled base is free of glaze. Along the main break there are, in two places, four pairs of aligned circular holes: two pairs pass through the wall and bottom, while the others were drilled on the outer wall. The breaks on the bowl have been repaired with glue ; The decoration almost completely covers the outer face of the bowl, as well as the inner rim and bottom. The decoration is a landscape type treated in Imari. It is hand-painted in two-tone blue underglaze, then traced and painted in iron red, with gold highlights, over glaze. On the outer wall, the decoration consists of a main scene surmounted by a horizontal braid. The braid is drawn in blue and consists of two alternately repeated elements. One element is a plant motif traced in red and painted in red and gold, set between two arcs of three concentric lines traced in blue and painted in blue and red. The second set is a latticework of lozenges, the center of which is lined with lines that face each other in a cross; it is drawn in red. In the center, a flower is outlined in red and painted in red and gold. The main motif features two identical scenes on opposite sides, bordered at the top and base by a blue-painted fillet. The scene consists of part of a pavilion adjoined by an enclosed garden. The pavilion features what appears to be a door with two superimposed compartments and a wall with an opening. The door is drawn in blue and painted in blue with red highlights; its upper panel is decorated with a grid drawn in red, while the lower panel, drawn in blue and painted in blue and orange-red, has a central plant motif drawn and painted in blue. The left door jamb appears to rest on a flared baluster, traced and painted blue. The pavilion wall rests on a rectangular block outlined in blue. At its base, the wall has two horizontal planks, traced and painted blue, and an element traced in blue and painted orange-red with gold highlights. It features a partially drawn opening with an undulating border; the border is made of two adjoining rods traced in blue with gold highlights: one rod is painted blue, the other red. A leafy, flowering plant appears in this opening: it is traced and painted in blue and red, the buds are traced and painted in red, while the flower is traced in red and painted in gold. The pavilion is flanked on its right by a straight fence with four posts topped by a ball and X-shaped bays: it is outlined and painted blue. Behind the fence, a leafy, flowering sock and shrub are outlined and painted blue, as are a few leaves. The flowers, buds and some leaves are traced in red; they are painted red or gold. A portion of the shrub is lost in the upper braid, before descending to the ground; it serves to divide the two scenes. At the foot of the fence rests an undulating, pierced rock, outlined in blue and painted orange. Resting on this rock is what looks like an arch, outlined in blue. Emerging from this rock are groups of leafy plants, one traced and painted in blue, the other two traced and painted in red, with a few gold highlights. The braid below the inner edge is drawn in blue, the lower line being doubled. The braid is composed of two alternately repeated elements. One element is a plant motif traced in red and painted in red and gold, which is set between two arcs of three concentric lines traced in blue and painted in blue and red. The second set is a latticework of four-petal flowers in an X-shape, arranged in a staggered pattern; the spaces between these flowers are lined with lines that face each other in a cross; it is traced in red. The inner base of the bowl is decorated with a double ring in blue. It features a leafy, flowering plant. The stem and some leaves are traced and painted in blue. Some leaves and the flower are traced and painted in red, with gold highlights, while other leaves are painted with strokes. The flower has been largely erased. The top of the bowl is covered with a brown ferruginous coating.
