Historical context
Polo is an equestrian sport that was brought to Canada by British officers stationed in Halifax in 1878. However, the oldest polo club in Canada was founded in Calgary in 1890. In 1899, it was Montreal’s turn to have its own club, when the Montreal Polo Club was founded by members of the Canadian Hunt Club.
