Pot

The pot is complete. It is pear-shaped, with a high neck, a straight rim and a small pinched spout; the base of the pot is narrowed, while the foot is flared. The jar is fitted with a vertical, square-section handle and a circular, slightly domed lid with a collar. The lid is held in place by a pewter hinge: it comprises a vertical part whose base surrounds the top of the handle, while the upper part holds the pivot. From this pivot emerges the horizontal part, fitted with a concave thumbpiece that extends into a straight strip, the lower part of which is riveted to the wall of the lid. The foot is unglazed. There is a blue-painted mark below the base: the letters AK, interlocked and traced in black. The body is buff and the enamel is white; the decoration is hand-painted under the rim, on the shoulder and wall, as well as on the foot, handle and lid. It is outlined in black and painted in blue and pale blue. The decoration below the outer rim consists of a horizontal fillet in black, bordering a frieze of half-flowers in black and pale blue, from which hangs a three-lobed element painted dark blue and surrounded by arabesques in blue. Between these elements is a three-lobed leaf in blue and pale blue, with black veins. The decoration on the base of the neck and on the shoulder consists of the same repeated vegetal and floral elements; the same decoration is found on the lower part of the wall. The main decoration on the wall consists of a horizontal braid adorned with a beaded lattice. It is interrupted by a disc featuring a flower between two ribbed leaves surrounded by arabesques. Alternating with the discs are three-lobed elements from which three full leaves emerge. The decoration below the lower part of the handle consists of a three-lobed, ribbed leaf. The base is adorned with a blue-painted fillet, while the foot is decorated with two superimposed fillets, on which rests a row of arcs. The face of the handle is adorned with fine vertical arabesques, and its sides are decorated with a broad blue-painted line. The rim of the lid is adorned with a decoration similar to that on the foot, in the center of which is a floral and vegetal element similar to those adorning the shoulder.
