In 1894, the Association des homéopathes québécois, made up mainly of English-speaking members, opened the first homeopathic hospital in Montreal. The practice of homeopathy was little known in Montreal at the time, and doctors were reluctant to have homeopaths in hospitals, which encouraged the association to open its own treatment center.
