This sepia-toned postcard features a photo montage with the inscription “Souvenir du pèlerinage organisé par l’Association catholique de la jeunesse canadienne-française (A.C.J.C.) à l’Oratoire Saint-Joseph du Mont-Royal le 10 octobre 1920” (“Souvenir of the pilgrimage organized by the Catholic Association of French-Canadian Youth (A.C.J.C.) to Saint Joseph’s Oratory on Mount Royal on October 10, 1920”). At top right, we can see a photograph of Brother André. Handwritten inscriptions on the reverse.

Historical context
The postcard shows the Oratory crypt, the first stage of the Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal project, built between 1916 and 1917 to plans by architects Dalbé Viau and Alphonse Venne. The project culminated in the future construction of a basilica on the mountainside. This neoclassical edifice, named “crypt” for its vaulted ceiling, attracts large crowds.
