Historical context

These metal tongs belonged to Sister Marie-de-la-Nativité of the Sisters of Sainte-Anne, who used them for 40 years to make rosaries. She gave it to Sister Marie-Bathilde in 1898.

The rosary, an object for counting prayers, is made using these small iron tongs designed precisely for this task. The assembly of the rosary also requires rings, a chain, beads and a cross.
