Plate
The plate is complete; however, the glaze around the rim has largely disappeared, as has part of the glaze on the base, and a crack has been consolidated with two iron wires. The plate is circular in shape, with a plain rim. In cross-section, the rim is in line with the marli, which is inclined towards the bottom; the latter is slightly domed on the face. The reverse of the plate is truncated cone-shaped, with a slightly depressed center. The base of the plate is angular. The body is beige in color and covered with a bluish-white enamel; there are enamel losses under the rim, on the marli and under the base; the reverse shows small holes in the enamel. Three traces of linear and triangular pernettes are visible under the marli. There are a few small flaws in the enamel on the inner base, which shows a number of small linear marks and a few areas of amati enamel. There is a mark painted in pale blue under the base: G O. The plate has a crack, which is reinforced by two rusty iron wires, each inserted in a pair of small circular holes running through the plate. Their ends are twisted; they are held in place by a hard white paste ; The decoration is hand-painted in blue. It was traced and painted in dark blue under glaze. It is of the compartmented braid and floral basket type. The decoration is painted on the marli, near the edge, and in the center of the background. The border is decorated with a wavy braid. It is outlined and painted in blue. The braid is decorated with three alternately repeated motifs. Of the two main motifs, one is in reserve on a blue-painted background: it consists of a half-flower painted partially in blue, flanked by a scroll and a quarter-flower, which is adorned with inclined lines. The other motif is a latticework drawn in blue and trimmed with three rows of off-center pearls painted in blue (so-called fish-scale decoration). These two motifs are separated by a blue-painted half-flower, set in sloping bands of fine, non-equidistant lines, the inner portion of which is painted blue. The background is decorated with a flowering basket. The basket is truncated cone-shaped, with a flat swollen bottom and a horizontal swollen rim; it is traced and partially filled with a blue-painted latticework; the basket’s rendering imitates rattan. From the top of the basket emerge a central half-flower flanked by two flowers in a row; these are surrounded by leafy plant stems and grapes, all of which are traced and painted in blue. The basket rests on a sort of ironwork-like support, the elements of which are mirrored: two acanthus leaves curved upwards. The leaves are traced and painted blue. The underside of the basket features a downward-pointing plant motif with a pearl, traced and painted blue.
