Plate
The plate is complete; the glaze around the rim has partially disappeared, and a break has been repaired with metal studs. The plate is circular in shape, with a plain rim. In cross-section, the rim is almost flat, while the marli slopes towards the bottom, which is slightly convex on the front. The reverse of the plate has a slightly depressed center. The base of the plate is angular. The body is pinkish-beige in color and covered with a bluish-white glaze; there are some missing glaze and tiny holes in the glaze on the reverse of the plate, and a burr near the rim. Three traces of linear and triangular pernettes are visible under the marli. The plate has a break, which is repaired with three rusty iron spikes made from a double iron rod, each inserted into a pair of small circular holes drilled in the back of the plate and held in place by a hard white paste ; The decoration is hand-painted in two-tone. It has been traced and painted in dark blue underglaze and red overglaze. It is of the compartmented braid and floral basket type. The decoration is painted on the marli, near the edge, and in the center of the background. The border is decorated with a ring-shaped braid. It is outlined in blue and painted in blue and red. The braid is decorated with two repeated motifs. The main motif, in reserve and mirrored, consists of a central flower in reserve between two scrolls set between two wing-shaped quarter-flowers. These flowers are adorned with red radiating lines. The other motif is a latticework drawn in red and decorated with blue-painted pearls. These two motifs are separated by a half-flower traced in red with a blue-painted core, which is set in two blue-painted vertical bands, while the sides are in reserve. The background features a flowery basket. The basket is truncated cone-shaped, with a flat swollen bottom and horizontal rim; it is outlined in blue and filled with a latticework painted red and adorned with blue-painted pearls. The basket rests on a flared base, itself set on a blue-painted terrace, while the base is adorned with red-painted vertical lines; the basket’s rendering imitates rattan. From the top of the basket emerge three different flowers arranged in a triangle; they are surrounded by leafy vegetal stems and grapes, and all these trimmings are traced in dark blue. Two flowers are partially painted blue, while the other is painted red. Some leaves are partially filled with radiating lines drawn in red or blue, while the others are painted blue; the grapes are partially painted blue and a coiled tendril falls from the grapes that line the basket. The basket rests on a blue-painted terrace.
