Plate

The plate is circular with a plain rim. It is complete, except for a small chip under the marli. The rim is thick and domed. The marli slopes slightly inwards, the wall is curved and the base is flat. On the reverse, the plate rests on a milled foot; the bottom is recessed and flat. The glaze is pale blue. There are two types of markings under the base: printed in blue and debossed. Two marks are printed: one in dark blue and the other in grayish blue. The first is an oval. The other is a rectangular cartouche, with inscriptions in three registers: CREIL MONTEREAU B & Cie. Above the cartouche is: DÉPOSÉ; and below the cartouche: M. There are linear marks on the inner base of the plate, and wear marks on the support of the milled foot. Intaglio marks are : J 4 aligned; The transfer printed decoration is blue with an oriental motif. The printed decoration is visible on the inner border, on the inner wall and on the inner background. The decoration on the marli consists of two different elements placed alternately, framed by two lines. The main decoration consists of a background with numerous straight lines intersecting at various angles, imitating cracks in the ice (Cracked ice). On this background are flowering, leafy branches painted in dark blue. This background is interrupted in four zones, arranged in a cross, by a zone set between two vertical arched bands painted dark blue; these zones are adorned with leafy, flowering branches. The background decoration is surrounded by a ring that borders the marly decoration. It features a stylized oriental scene with fans and shrubs, divided into three triangular areas. The lower part features an undulating terrace with a stippled surface; a long, leafy, flowering stem rises from the terrace, along with grass and a broad plant element from which four leafy branches emerge. To the left, another dot-patterned terrace supports flowering, leafy trees, an undulating, leafy, flowering plant element and two blue-painted, rectangular, adjoining elements, similar to raised terraces. On the right is a half-fan, its wings painted alternately in pale and dark blue; the wings flare outwards, and their tips are domed. The rendering of the decoration is blurred. There are linear markings on the inner background.
