Piggy bank box
Latvian post office money box. The wooden box is rectangular and rounded. There is a slot on the top. A motif and the institution’s name are engraved on each side of the box. The underside of the box opens with a key.

Au début du 19e siècle, les banques d’épargne sont créées en Grande-Bretagne par des sociétés de secours mutuels. Elles se diffusent dans plusieurs pays puis se rassemblent pour coordonner la promotion de l’épargne, notamment par le biais de tirelires. En parallèle, un autre groupe d’institution se préoccupe également de l’épargne populaire : les services bancaires liés aux bureaux de poste.
