Historical context
In her 1944 novel Earth and High Heaven, Gwethalyn Graham describes certain memories of Montreal, including “the schematized black-and-white figures of nuns taking the air at dusk among the trees near the motherhouse of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame, the narrow dark streets of downtown Montreal […]”.
