Lot of Dupuis Frères store boxes: – two square hat boxes – 5 boxes of various sizes – one single lid Brown or pink-brown boxes with a small black border on the outside and the Dupuis Frères Limitée logo in the center of the lid. Some boxes have an alligator-skin texture on the lid. Some boxes have the store address written below the logo, others ”Montréal” only. Some boxes have handwritten inscriptions and glued-on delivery labels.

Historical context

These cardboard boxes come from the Dupuis Frères store, a Montreal institution symbolizing the economic success of French Canadians. In 1868, Nazaire Dupuis opened a store on rue Sainte-Catherine, near rue Montcalm. In 1882, the company moved to the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Saint-André, where it remained until its closure.
