Historical context
Trimmed with muskrat fur, these baby moccasins are traditionally intended for a boy. The fur of aquatic animals such as beaver and muskrat is associated with boys, in keeping with the myths and beliefs of many Algonquin nations. Each nation has its own particular characteristics. The puckering at the toe, the general shape and the use of caribou skin indicate that these moccasins are typically Innu.
