Mitten
Men’s mittens in bear fur. They cover the forearm up to the elbow. The front portion of the hand is leather. Also, the unlined portion covering the forearm is uniform reddish-brown leather. The leather is thick and supple. Hand-assembled with strong thread. On the forearm, the fur has been folded back and the edges connected (on the ulnar side) by a narrow leather band (6cm). The mittens are finished with a fine leather strap hand-sewn onto the thick fur leather.

Historical context
This type of men’s mittens made from black bear or baribal fur, less common than those made from beaver fur, were very much in vogue among the Canadian bourgeoisie and merchant class from the second half of the 19th century to the first quarter of the 20th century.
