Historical context

The object represents a scale model of a qajaq (kayak) like those once made in Nunavik, fashioned from depilated sealskin. The skin covers a wooden structure. It is topped by a half-moon coaming (paa, in the Inuit language) made of wood sewn to the seal membrane.
