Miniature cariole

This wooden toy features a horse-drawn cariole. The white cariole on 4 yellow wheels is decorated with red lettering and illustrations of dairy products and cows. The back of the cariole opens. The horse is white with the horsehair and reindeer painted black. It rides on 4 small red wheels. A red cord attached to the horse’s feet is used to pull the cariole. A furry tail has been added to the horse’s wooden tail. Advertising support for Borden’s farms. Manufacturer’s label on the back of the cariole.

Historical context

This toy is a miniature wooden cart, dating from the 1920s-1930s, which was probably produced by the Borden company as a promotional item. This model was used for home delivery of Borden’s Farm Products fluid milk and cream to markets in New York, Chicago and Montreal.
