Milk jug

The pot is complete; a crack has been consolidated with copper metal studs. It is piriform. Its wall is swollen and surmounted by a neck that tapers towards the top before flaring slightly; the top of the rim is flat. The pot rests on a small ring-shaped foot, the base of which is free of glaze. The base is slightly domed in the center and recessed, with an incised ring. The glaze on the bottom, near its junction with the foot, has been wiped off. The jar is fitted with a vertical handle; folded down at the top, it is attached to the base of the neck. The cross-section is oval. The pouring spout is vertical and triangular. Attached to the neck, it flares out towards the top, which is flat and level with the top of the jar. There is a mark printed in blue below the base: C, a cross-hatched crescent. The pot has a long crack from the rim to the foot; the crack is reinforced, on the outer face of the pot, by three copper metal spikes, each inserted in a pair of small holes drilled in the outer wall of the pot. The studs are covered in white and blue paint; the decoration is applied by transfer printing and hand-painted in blue with a Fence motif. The painted decoration is located under the outer edge: it consists of two superimposed horizontal rings. The printed decoration is visible on the outer wall. It is divided into three aligned zones. The main decoration consists of a fence made up of a few sections: some are straight, while others are arranged in a zig-zag pattern. The fence sections are cross-hatched, with a small, three-lobed opening in the center. A lobed rock borders the fence on the right. Leafy and flowering plant stems of varying scales adjoin the fence, including a long stem extending to the left; they are cross-hatched. To the left of the fence is a small terrace made of a wavy line and covered with grass. It joins a long rock with two heads, one of which is topped by three trees, while the other portion is topped by three curved plant stems of reed or bamboo. The other area consists of an elongated, cross-hatched island. It is surmounted by a hut with a domed straw roof, and flanked by two trees on the left and two on the right; a six-lobed rock borders the island at water level. Waves made of horizontal lines strike the island and the rock. At the foot of the island, two stylized plant groups are aligned and two small rocks emerge. Two birds fly from the island, facing each other. The wings of one point backwards, while those of the other are horizontal.
