Milk jug

The pot is complete. It is pear-shaped. Its wall is swollen and topped by a neck that tapers towards the top before flaring slightly; the top of the rim is domed. The pot rests on a small annular foot, the base of which is free of glaze. The bottom is slightly domed and recessed, with an incised ring. The glaze on the bottom, near its junction with the foot, has been wiped off. The pot is fitted with a vertical handle; folded down at the top, it is attached to the base of the neck. Its cross-section is oval, with a small vertical central groove on its face. The spout is vertically triangular. Attached to the neck, it flares out towards the top, which is flat and level with the top of the jar. There is a mark printed in blue below the base: C, a cross-hatched crescent. There’s a crack on the pot, starting below the bottom and extending up the wall. A grayish-beige material has been added under the bottom to repair the crack ; The decoration is applied by transfer printed and hand-painted; it is blue in color and features the Fence motif. The painted decoration is located under the inner edge: it consists of two superimposed horizontal rings. The printed decoration is visible on the outer wall. It is divided into three aligned zones. The main decoration consists of a fence made up of a few sections: some are straight, while others are arranged in a zig-zag pattern. The fence sections are cross-hatched, with a small, three-lobed opening in the center. A lobed rock borders the fence on the right. Leafy and flowering plant stems of varying scales adjoin the fence, including a long stem extending to the left; they are cross-hatched. To the left of the fence is a small terrace made of a wavy line and covered with grass. This is followed by a long rock with two heads, one of which is topped by three trees, while the other portion is topped by two curved plant stems of reed or bamboo. The other area consists of an elongated, cross-hatched island. It is surmounted by a hut with a curved straw roof, and adjoined by three trees; a stepped rock borders the island at water level. Waves made of horizontal lines strike the island and the rock. At the foot of the island are two stylized plant groups and a small emerging rock. Two birds fly from the island; seen in profile to the right, they follow each other. Their wings point backwards and downwards.
