Marmalade pot
The pot is cylindrical in shape. The wall is straight, and the rim is in line with its axis; a deep, wide horizontal groove on the outside sets them apart. The base is beveled, and the bottom is recessed and flat. The base is free of glaze. There is a mark printed in black on the outer wall and marks made by intaglio printing under the base. The printed mark occupies the full height of the object: it consists of a wreath of leafy oak stems knotted at the base. The inscription in the center of the wreath is in three registers: JAMES KEILLER & SONS DUNDEE MARMALADE. The inscription above the wreath reads: GRAND MEDAL OF MERIT VIENNA 1873. The inscription below the crown is in two registers: ONLY PRIZE MEDAL FOR MARMALADE LONDON, 1862. The marks under the base are in the center, in three registers: S MALING K; and in an arc near the edge: NEWCASTLE ; None, except for the inscription visible on the face.
