Fort Chambly – construction report: inventory of carpentry and masonry work. Old signed document. [Quittance]. [2] pages, folio. Header of this document: “Bordereau des quittances a faire pour les ouvrages qui ont été faites au Fort de Chambly”. Recto a series of six names of people, suppliers or workmen, with a description of what is owed or what has been paid. Recto a series of columns of figures and names, possibly Levasseur, himself architect of the stone fort at the foot of the Richelieu rapids. A signature, that of the notary Adhémar (?) and his initials.

À l’automne 1709, devant la menace d’une invasion anglaise, le gouverneur général de la Nouvelle-France ordonne la construction d’un fort de pierre à Chambly pour remplacer le fort de bois. L’intendant commande aux habitants de Montréal et la région de rassembler et d’y apporter la pierre et la chaux nécessaires à cette construction.
