Historical context
The Carillon-Sacré-Coeur flag was inspired by the banner Montcalm’s French troops would have flown in their victory at Carillon on July 8, 1758. Designed by Abbé Eugène Filiatrault, who hoisted it on the Saint-Jude presbytery in 1902, it was part of a drive by French-Canadian elites of the time to give French Canadians a national flag.
