Historical context
Traditional fur garments provide protection from the extreme cold of the Arctic. Their shapes, which vary from region to region, also mark the identity of the wearer. This doll represents a young Inuit woman wearing a seal-fur atigi with a twisted wool belt around her waist. She is wearing a pair of kamiik (boots), also made of sealskin.
