Historical context
This model of German doll, known as a “China doll”, was very popular in English-speaking countries around 1900. Produced in the village of Sonnenburg, nicknamed “Toy City of the World”, it comes in several sizes, including “Tea Cup Dolls” barely 20 centimetres long. These were destined for the dolls’ houses that furnished the bedrooms of middle-class girls.
