Deep dish

The dish is complete; the enamel has disappeared around the rim and in one place on the wing. The dish is circular with a plain outline. In cross-section, the wing is inclined, while the rim is concave; the wall is rounded and the bottom is flat. The reverse of the dish has a slightly concave center. The base of the dish is angular. The body is beige in color and covered with a bluish-white enamel; there are enamel smudges under the dish, near the rim. Three traces of linear and triangular pernettes are visible under the marli. The dish has a crack. The bottom of the dish shows a few areas of staining. The enamel on the reverse of the dish is scattered with small holes, and the base shows signs of wear ; The decoration is molded and hand-painted in two-tone. It has been traced and painted in blue underglaze and red overglaze. It is of the compartmented braid and floral basket type. The molded decoration can be seen on the edge of the wing: it consists of a row of small gadroons molded in relief. Painted decoration is applied to the wing and to the center of the base. On the wing, the decoration is tripartite: a row of gadroons and a braid separated by a band. Near the edge of the wing, a row of truncated spheres is painted on a thin fillet, separated by a dash, all traced and painted in blue. This row is separated from the inner braid by a wide blue band. The braid is outlined and painted in blue and red. It features two alternating motifs. One is in reserve on a blue-painted background: it consists of a central half-flower set between two wing-shaped quarter-flowers set between two scrolls; some of the scrolls have a few extra petals. These flowers are adorned with red radiating lines. The other motif is a latticework drawn in red and trimmed with blue-painted pearls. These two motifs are separated by a half-flower made of red radiating lines with a blue-painted core; it is set in two blue-painted arched bands, while the sides are in reserve. The background is decorated with a flowering basket. The basket is truncated cone-shaped, with a flat swollen base and concave rim; it is outlined in blue and partially filled with a latticework painted red; the basket’s rendering imitates rattan. From the top of the basket emerges a central half-flower framed by two flowers; these are surrounded by leafy plant stems, leaves and a flower. The main flower is traced and painted in two shades of blue, while some of the leaves and flowers adjacent to it are partially filled in with radiating lines traced in red. Curved plant stems and other leaves are outlined and painted in blue. Two red tendrils hang from either side of the basket. The basket rests on a flared base, itself set on a blue terrace.
