Crumb tray

The crumb tray is complete; the handle has been broken off and repaired with glue. It is made of porcelain, with gilded copper metal mounts and parts. It consists of three linked parts: body, lid and handle. The body is circular; its wall is domed, while its base and rim are short and flared. The rim is covered by a gilded metal frame, which covers the top and outer rim. On the handle side, a horizontal hinge connects it to an identical frame around the neck of the lid. The lid is circular with a domed top. It is perforated by a circular hole on the handle side, through which passes a threaded tenon from which emerges a gilded metal poucier, molded as an openwork plant element; inside the lid, the poucier is held in place by a nut. The body is fitted with an inclined handle, hollow tubular in shape and closed at one end; at the other end, it is inserted into a copper-plated metal tube, terminated by a threaded tenon that penetrates a hole in the body and holds the handle in place, by means of a nut. There is a mark printed in blue under the bottom of the body: a serrated half-ring separated by a long band of vegetal motif; under the ring reads: EST.1828; the decoration is molded, applied by decalcomania in polychrome and painted in gold. The molded decoration is visible on the lid, wall and handle. The lid has a wavy rim with spikes, and features plant and floral decoration in relief near the rim. The wall features vertical fluting and the same floral and plant motif as the lid, on the upper portion. The handle is decorated with small elongated flutes and a plant motif. The lid face, wall and handle are adorned with a floral and vegetal motif applied by decalcomania in pink, orange, green and pale blue, with gold highlights. The top of the lid rim features a wide, dark-blue painted braid, as does the front end of the handle. Only the inside of the body and lid, as well as the underside of the body, are covered in colorless glaze; the rest is a dull yellowish-white. The decoration on the metal mounts is molded and geometrically patterned.
