Cream pot

The pot is complete. It is circular in shape. The shoulder is rounded and the neck is narrowed; the rim is flared and the top is domed. It has an elongated oval spout. The wall is tapered towards the base, which is swollen. It rests on a partially unglazed foot. The bottom is recessed and flat. The handle is vertical. Oval in shape and cross-section, its ends are turned down and rest on the neck and wall; the decoration is molded, coated and applied. The pot is covered on the outside with a copper lustre coating and a band of engobe. The molded decoration is visible on the outer wall. There is a horizontal groove with a string of pearls below the rim. Two horizontal grooves with a string of pearls are visible on the wall, one near the shoulder and the other above the landings. The lower part of the wall is decorated with four steps, decreasing in size down to the base. The slip decoration forms a band on the wall, encircled by the two pearl grooves. The slip is dark blue in color; on the two opposite walls, it is decorated with a scene applied in relief. It is white in color and decorated with highlights painted in green, pink and brown enamels mixed with the colorless glaze. The scene, of English bucolic character, presents a young girl in three-quarter view, dressed in a long dress; seated on a bench, she appears to be stroking a cat sitting beside her. The scene rests on a terrace and is framed by a tree and a shrub. The inner wall, with the exception of the neck, is covered with a white slip, itself covered with a colorless glaze; the neck is covered with copper plaster over its colorless glaze.
