Cream pot

The milk jug is complete, except for a small chip on the rim. It has an oval shape on a pedestal, and is known to be in the shape of an inverted antique helmet. The wall is slightly bulging and the neck is slightly constricted; it is topped by a rim that is socked lower on its sides but rises to the back and front, and to the straight top. The rim has an oval-shaped spout at the front, in line with the rim. The wall is constricted at the base and rests on a pedestal with a wide, flat fulcrum. The base is free of glaze. The base is sunken into a cone and pierced by a circular central hole. The jar is fitted with a vertical ear-shaped handle. Its upper end is folded down to rest on the top of the rim. The lower end is elongated and slightly concave, resting on the wall and ending in an oval. The cross-section is oval. A mold line runs lengthwise through the middle of the pot’s outer surface. The inner base, the foot rim and the underside of the foot are stained with soot; the decoration is painted on the glaze in polychrome red, green, pink, black and violet. The decoration is vegetal. It is visible under the inner rim, under the outer rim, on the outer wall and on the handle. The decorations under the inner and outer rims are a broad fillet painted in identical red, except that the fillet under the inner rim is surrounded by a line painted in violet. The decoration extends over the upper half of the outer wall: it consists of five purple-painted garlands, each with a pink flower in the center, surrounded by black-painted green leaves; all are flanked on either side by a small purple-painted ring. A small leafy stem is painted between each garland. The handle is adorned with red-painted decoration: the center of the vertical part of the handle is adorned with a fillet, and the ends are adorned with a fillet, while the vertical portion of the handle is adorned with a plant motif followed by a row of aligned dashes and dots.
