Cream pot
The milk jug is complete; some breaks have been repaired with copper wire. It is oval in shape. The cream-colored body is glaze-free on the outside and covered with a colorless glaze on the inside. In cross-section, the wall is swollen and then slightly narrowed under the rim, which is flared. The spout is higher than the rim and oval in shape. The pot is fitted with a vertical handle, the ends of which rest on the rear wall. The wall is narrowed at the base and the pot rests on a circular foot with a wide, flat base. The bottom is flat and slightly recessed. A mold line runs lengthwise through the middle of the pot’s outer surface. The handle was added on this mold line. The pot has several breaks, which have been repaired using six copper wires, each inserted into a pair of small holes running through the wall of the pot, and their ends twisted together. The knot connecting the ends of each wire appears to have been filed down ; The decoration is moulded on the outer wall. The object is shaped like a shell on a foot, with the front part folded inwards at the top. The handle is molded separately. The front portion of the wall is shaped like a cornucopia, with an undulating rim from which upward-curving ribs emerge, occupying the side walls without reaching the rim. The top of the rim is corrugated and, under the outer edge of the sides, features a vegetal pattern similar to a multi-headed volute. Two dolphins are molded vertically and upside down under the spout; their bodies are intertwined, while their heads and tails point outwards. In the background, two shovel irons point at an angle. The dolphins’ heads rest on a large scallop shell seen from the front. The lower part of the wall is adorned with a scallop chain flanked by scrolls of various shapes. The handle is shaped like a snake, with its tail coiled around itself at the top of the jar, while the lower part, which rests on the wall of the jar, takes the form of the snake’s head.
