As the cover of this coloring book shows, the world of travel came to Montreal in 1967. This World’s Fair opened Quebec’s eyes to wonderful travel destinations with new cuisines, new arts and a whole new way of looking at different cultures. In preparation, thousands of residents of Montreal and elsewhere in the province mobilized to create a magical, magnificent site off the island of Montreal. Four sections were built in the St. Lawrence River: La Cité du Havre, Île Sainte-Hélène, Île Notre-Dame and La Ronde house over 60 pavilions. Montreal staged an exceptional world’s fair, and Expo 67 will forever be remembered as an “artistic and cultural marvel”. The contribution of Blacks to the construction of Expo 67 is little known. Thanks to chief engineer Richard Lord, who helped plan and oversee the laying of communications cables and electrical wires, the site buzzed and the lights never went out.
