Clock parquet

19th-century American-made wooden clock featuring a dial with Roman numeral hours, seconds and days of the month, and hand-painted moon phases at the top. The clock head is removable and decorated with foliage motifs above an arched door protecting the pewter (steel) and brass dial. The door is ornamented and framed by fluted columns with capitals. The sides are glazed and crowned by two scrolls in the Chippendale or American Federal style. They surround an upper section that must have been extended by a brass spinning top. It has a long central case with beveled glass framed by two fluted columns and capitals revealing the weights and balance wheel. The whole rests on a lower case with a three-sided panel and a central panel decorated with carved floral motifs, all resting on four Regency-style clawed feet. This clock has an eight-day movement. It is made of solid brass, as are the balance wheel, weights and case hardware.
