Clam

The stoup is complete; some breaks have been repaired with iron spikes and glue. It consists of a separate molded plate and a turned vessel. It is oval in shape with a plain outline, topped by an oval head. The head is pierced by a circular hole, the inside wall of which is covered with enamel. The face is covered with a bluish-white glaze, while the back is unglazed and uneven. The vessel adheres to the face of the lower part of the plate. It is circular in shape, with a globular wall, rounded shoulder, constricted neck and outwardly folded rim; the enamel on its inner wall is altered. It rests on a small, solid tubular foot; the underside of the foot has a wide, domed fulcrum. The plate is crossed, both on the front and back, by two rusty iron spikes made from a double rod; they are held in place by a white paste ; The decoration is molded and hand-painted in dark blue and purple underglaze. It is religious and geometric. The molded decoration is visible on the face and head of the plate. The rim is convex, as is the head, whose face is also decorated with convex radiating ribs. Painted decoration is visible on the plate, its head and the container. The plaque features a Christ on the cross, outlined in violet and painted blue; blood flows from the wounds on his hands. The base of the cross is bordered by a pair of rectangular stakes. The edge of the plaque is adorned with wide, uneven radiating lines painted blue. The head is adorned with radiating lines delimited at the base by two superimposed arched lines, which are covered by curved lines. The outer wall of the vessel is adorned with two motifs repeated in alternation and delineated by double fillets. One motif, sitting on the lower fillets, is a stylized leafy stem; the other motif, hanging from the upper fillets, consists of Chinese-style scrolls.
