Cauldron fur trading

Cauldron from the fur-trading era. Made of copper metal, it is black in color. It is encircled by an iron ring for attaching a handle. The Hudson’s Bay Company hallmark is visible inside the cauldron on the rim. The bottom is very thin due to oxidation and wear. This object was probably made in England.

Historical context

Metal cauldrons were among the objects found in the various Hudson’s Bay Company trading posts that traded with the Aboriginals. In a context of mutual dependence, the latter traded the fur of the animals they hunted for European goods.
