Butter dish cover
The butter dish lid is incomplete; it lacks the gripping knob and chips on the base of the collar, and a break has been repaired with glue. It is circular in shape. It has a domed top. It has a central grip knob. It has a circular wing with an outwardly sloping top and a flat underside, with two opposing rectangular indentations on the wing. It has an annular collar that tapers slightly towards the sock. The underside of the wing and the outer wall of the collar are free of glaze. The lid is broken in two sections, which have been repaired twice, first with spikes and then with glue. The reverse side of the lid features four pairs of small circular holes drilled into the wall and wing; they were intended to accommodate four metal, probably copper, spikes. These studs were later removed, probably to enable the lid to be repaired with glue ; The decoration is molded and applied by transfer printed; it is blue in color and features the Fence motif. The molded decoration is visible on the knob. The knob has been applied to the lid; it consists of a stem decorated with two leaves, applied directly in sock relief to the lid; a knob emerges from the stem, which is broken and missing. The printed decoration is visible on the top of the lid, and encloses the molded stem of the button. The main decoration is encircled by a horizontal ribbon below the rim; it consists of a row of rectangles trimmed with radiating dashes and provided with a central pearl. The main decorative element is a fence made of four non-aligned, cross-hatched sections. A rock borders the fence to the right. On either side of the fence, leafy and flowering plant stems of varying scales are cross-hatched. Finally, two birds flutter overhead. Part of the set has sunk.
