Box cover

The lid is complete, except for a few small chips on the rim. It is rectangular with rounded corners and a plain rim. The lid has an almost flat wing, a curved wall and a flat top. On the reverse, the lid has a rectangular neck with thick, rounded corners; the decoration is molded and applied by transfer printing; it is blue in color and features a European landscape motif. The molded decoration is visible on the rim. The printed decoration is visible on the outer wall and top. The molded decoration consists of a row of teardrop-shaped gadroons, each separated by two curved ribs; the gadroons are mirrored in alternating groups. The printed decoration covers the wall and top of the lid. It is bordered, near the rim, by a narrow wavy band adorned with a row of shamrocks separated by a spearhead. The main decoration consists of two different sets, applied to the sides and opposite ends. The ends are decorated with a blue background of dots, with two scrolls in reserve at the top and flower seedlings in reserve on the sides. The scrolls are surmounted by several rows of lobed geometrical shapes and topped by flowers and leafy stems; those at the top are curved in an arc. The scene on the wall consists of a body of water bordered by what appears to be a bridge seen in profile and lined with flowers, behind which is a terrace on which Italian Renaissance-style buildings stand, lined with trees. The rendering of the scenery is sharp. The cut of the decoration is visible, particularly on the ends of the lid.
