Historical context

This circular basket (ivigaq, in the Inuit language) was made from wild rye (ivik, in Inuktitut), a large herbaceous plant that grows on the sandy shores of the coast, where it is harvested in autumn. Once thoroughly dried, it is used to make baskets.
