Basket
Large, square-bottomed, round-necked basket in woven ash. The thinness of the ash strips seems to indicate a certain fragility, belied by the date inscribed on the English-language newsprint that lines part (about 60%) of the basket’s interior: March 26, 1857. The sides are slightly domed. The circular shape of the neck is reinforced by a half-round wooden strap that wraps around itself and is attached to the braided ash ribs by a thin ash strap wrapped around both structures.
