Historical context
This piece has the particularity of having the direction of braiding reversed at its half. This joint, known as the lynx eye, has the aesthetic function of allowing the motifs to fall in the same direction when the belt is worn. Also, the white picot stitch around the two-tone arrowheads simulates the inlaying of beads, objects found in native, Métis and French-Canadian cultures and traditionally used in the making of this motif.
